Berndt Friberg (1899-1981) was born in Sweden and his work became renowned for its artistic craftsmanship, diminutive form, and brilliant glazes.
Friberg’s masterful glaze application is one of the signature qualities distinguishing Gustavsberg Studio artistically during the mid-century modern period (1960’s). The striation known as “rabbit fur” gives each piece a rich, and compelling visual texture, while his simple, pure form retains the understanding of simple, timeless Scandinavian design. His play with scale and miniatures is sensually pleasing and makes this collector’s item worth owning and employing in decoration. His pottery is featured in the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
These stoneware bowls and short ball vase are from Friberg’s later years, starting in the 1960’s, when he experimented with Aniara glaze and miniatures. Visually compelling and soothing, these ceramics add beauty and stature to any table.
