Neoclassical, "Prince of Wales" Armchairs, Ebonized Wood, Gilt, Beige Silk, USA, 19th Century

A fully restored pair of the finest Hepplewhite ebony and pencil inlaid 19th century armchairs. Each having a parcel gilt decorated tassel and ribbon "Prince of Wales" backrest leading to a pair of wonderfully inlaid arms and sides. Each example has recently undergone a light refinishing to the ebonized frames to maintain the original integrity of the decorative inlay. Each chair has been also been newly reupholstered in a patterned beige silk. This style has inspired numerous notable 20th century makers/manufacturers, including Maison Jansen and Baker Furniture Inc.
