Modern Asian Rhino Sculpture, Hot Cast Bronze, American, 21st C.
A signed, dated, and numbered limited edition tabletop sculpture titled Asian Rhino by award-winning sculptor Jesse Nusbaum. Crafted in 100% hot bronze, this piece showcases exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Below is the artist's statement, which outlines the inspiration and conceptual framework behind this work.
"I was inspired to sculpt the rhino after seeing one at the San Diego zoo. I was captivated by its immense strength, resilience, and the deep symbolism it carries as a creature that has withstood the test of time. It looked prehistoric. The Asian Rhino, with its imposing size, powerful build, and armor-like skin represents a profound connection to the earth and its untamed wildness. It is a symbol of quiet strength, embodying both physical might and an enduring spirit in the face of adversity. Yet, beneath its tough
exterior lies a vulnerability that speaks to the fragility of life, particularly as rhinos face the threat of extinction due to poaching and habitat loss. Asian Rhino’s are one of the last remaining species of rhino. Through this sculpture, I sought to capture the raw beauty of the rhino and to evoke its dual nature—strength paired with vulnerability—while also raising awareness about the urgent need to protect such remarkable animals. The rhino’s symbolism extends beyond its physical attributes; it serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between resilience and fragility, and the responsibility we bear to safeguard the natural world." - Jesse Nusbaum
