Maison Jansen Style, Louis XVI Bow Front Chest, Ebonized Wood, France, 1900s
French Louis XVI, Hollywood Regency Chest of Drawers or Dresser, Ebonized Wood, Gilt Bronze, Marble, France, 1900s
A spectacular Louis XVI style bow-front chest of drawers in the manner of Maison Jansen, crafted in France during the late 19th early 20th century. This example features a gracefully curved facade, three spacious drawers beneath a narrow upper drawer, and finely detailed doré bronze mounts, including decorative drawer pulls, gilt bronze banding, fluted column accents, and ornamental rosettes. The drawers exhibit traditional tight dovetail joinery, reflecting the high quality of the cabinetmaking. The chest has been professionally refinished in a rich ebonized finish, with the original gilt bronze hardware carefully cleaned. Retaining its original white marble top, the piece combines classical French craftsmanship with the sophisticated aesthetic associated with Maison Jansen.
