Carved Mahogany and Giltwood Neoclassical Console with Mirror by P.G Bylanders,
Fine signed P.G Bylanders, Gothenberg, circa 1810, Carved mahogany and giltwood Swedish neoclassical console with mirror. This fabulous piece is a one of a kind beauty. A true antique. The ebonized base supporting a central true giltwood star burst carving flanked by a pair of full bodied dolphins with flowing tails leading to a mahogany apron adorning an antique insert marble top in a gilt wood surround. The console base under a two-piece beveled mirror with column form giltwood sides and a finely giltwood star decorated top. The piece terminates in a wonderfully carved giltwood winged eagle set in a crotch mahogany backdrop. This piece is certainly a true fine example of the Swedish period at its best.
He was Sweden's most famous mirror maker during the Empire period. He supplied mirrors and consoles to many country houses and palaces in southern and western Sweden, including Skottorp, Sperlingsholm and Stjernsund.
