Artist statement: "This series is created by sequentially deconstructing and then reconstructing the material while bending it into free flowing compositions. I hand sculpt the entire length of the piece. LED strips are then positioned between the layers, allowing the material to soften and diffuse the enclosed light. While developing this work, I conducted many experiments with varying degrees of success. Wood is a complex, organic substance with inherent properties. Its anatomy and breaking points inform and persuade the work’s overall compositions. The challenges in creating this series lie in refining new skills and techniques that both overcome and honor the wood's suggestive nature. Mastering these challenges allows for endless possibilities in composition, scale and application."
